Who We Help

The ZenWaves approach to psychiatry is holistic: medication is just one treatment option. We also prescribe neurofeedback, supplements and lifestyle changes, to deliver long-lasting improvement.

This approach is especially effective if:

  • You would prefer not to take psychiatric medications, or to reduce the dosage.
  • You have experienced negative side-effects from medications.
  • Conventional psychiatric medication has not worked for you, or has worked only in the short term.

Dr Biswas has a growing reputation for treating ADHD. We also treat many other disorders including anxiety, brain injury and PTSD. We’ve listed the most common below.

ADHD

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is much misunderstood, which means it is often incorrectly treated.

People with ADHD have difficulties paying attention, and also controlling impulses. This combination disrupts day-to-day activities.

Children with ADHD are usually inattentive, fidgety and easily distracted. They often act without thinking. Treatment and support help them focus so they can fulfill their full potential.

Diagnosis of ADHD in adults is increasing over time. With high energy levels and a good dose of creativity and spontaneity, these individuals have much to offer, but often need assistance to manage their energy more effectively.

At ZenWaves Clinic ADHD treatment options include

  • qEEG (‘brain mapping’) to examine your unique brain wave patterns and identify different subtypes of ADHD.
  • Neurofeedback to retrain specific parts of your brain. in 2013 the American Academy of Paediatrics endorsed neurofeedback as a treatment for ADHD, stating that it is equally as effective as stimulant medications.
  • qEEG results also help us predict your response to medication. We can select options which are likely to work better for you, with fewer or no side effects. In some cases, we can reduce or even eliminate the need for medication.

“Reception are lovely and informative. Dr Dona Biswas is fantastic, listens to you and not dismissive at all. Brain mapping is a great process and very informative.

Glad I was able to find ZenWaves to help with my ADHD.”

Autism

Nearly one in 70 Australians has a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Presentations range from the severe (“Childhood Autism”) to milder forms (“Asperger’s syndrome”). With so much variation, personalised treatment for Autism is essential.

ZenWaves does not offer diagnostic services for ASD. However, we use qEEG/Brain Mapping as part of a comprehensive assessment so we can tailor a treatment plan for you.

Anxiety

Anxiety can be triggered by many different stimuli. You may have generalised anxiety, worrying constantly about health, finances, family, work and more. Perhaps you have OCD, a panic disorder, a social phobia – or you are afraid of specific objects, animals or situations.

Conventional treatments, such as cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) and antidepressants, help some but not all people with anxiety. Our anxiety treatment plans are individually tailored and may also include targeted supplements, heart variability training and neurofeedback.

Depression

Depression affects all aspects of your life – mood, sleep, appetite, ability to function. Most of all, it affects your happiness.

Treatment-resistant depression is increasingly common. At ZenWaves we take an integrative approach to the treatment of depression. We tailor a plan for you which includes multiple treatment types, from neurofeedback to supplements to lifestyle changes.

PTSD

PTSD and Developmental Trauma are some of the most difficult mental health conditions to treat successfully.

Conventional treatments include psychotherapy, attendance at support groups and medication. In many cases, there is little significant relief. If you have buried traumatic memories deeply for self-protection, talk therapies rarely help.

Our psychiatrists often recommend neurofeedback when more conventional treatment plans have had limited success.

***

Whether you have ADHD, anxiety, PTSD or another condition, the core ZenWaves approach is the same. We work with you to identify root causes, then develop a treatment plan to address those issues rather than simply suppress symptoms.

Do you want an alternative to psychiatry’s typical focus on medication?

Do you have a long or complex history of mental health issues, not easily resolved?

Our less invasive methods may be the solution for you.

NDIS participants may be able to apply NDIS funds to neurofeedback. Contact our staff to learn more.
