Dr Vivek Sharma

MBBS, MD (Psychiatry), BCN, QEEG-D Neurofeedback Practitioner and QEEG Expert

Dr Vivek Sharma trained in Psychiatry at King George’s Medical College in India before moving to Australia in 2012.

As he gained experience in the Australian mental health system he came to realise that conventional psychiatric treatments were of limited effectiveness in many difficult-to-treat psychiatric conditions. He developed and pursued an interest in neuromodulation. He has gone on to become Board Certified in Neurofeedback by BCIA-Australia, and is also certified as both a Diplomate and a Mentor of the International QEEG Certification Board. He now exclusively provides Neurofeedback and QEEG services.

Dr Sharma has considerable experience in managing challenging conditions which respond poorly to conventional treatment. Many clients are referred to him when they fail to respond to medication, are sensitive to side effects, or simply prefer a non-medication approach.

He has a specialised interest in PharmacoEEG, which basically means using EEG and qEEG Brain Maps to recommend psychotropic medications to prescribing physicians or psychiatrists.  Variation in individual response to psychiatric medication means prescription often includes an element of trial and error – PharmacoEEG reduces this and improves the chances of a positive response to medication.

Dr Sharma is active in many professional organisations, and has presented at various national and state-level conferences for organisations including the Applied Neurosciences Society of Australia (ANSA), the Orygen Early Psychosis Forum and the Westmead Youth Forum. He also led a pilot project for the headspace – Early Psychosis Program in 2020-21 on the use of qEEG-guided Neurofeedback in persons with early psychosis and developmental trauma, which showed exceptional results.

Dr Sharma’s areas of interest are ADHD, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, sleep disorders, substance use disorders, treatment-resistant Mood and Anxiety Disorders, treatment-resistant PTSD and Developmental Trauma.

He speaks English and Hindi.
